The Amazing Spider-Man (Rated PG-13)
Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field
Directed by: Marc Webb
Synopsis: Peter Parker finds a clue that might help him understand why his parents disappeared when he was young. His path puts him on a collision course with Dr. Curt Connors, his father’s former partner.
My Thoughts: This was yet another movie that I saw with very low expectations. I’ve seen the 3 Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films and thought they were alright (although the third one sort of killed the franchise for me). I ultimately decided to give it a shot because of Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) and Emma Stone (The Help, Easy A). This version of Spider-Man easily exceeded my expectations. Andrew Garfield brought humor, sarcasm, and more of a New York accent to Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emma Stone’s, Gwen Stacy, was a much feistier character than Mary Jane Watson (who was basically always in danger). Overall, the acting was as good as can be expected with the amount of special of effects you know went into it. And Rhys Ifans (The Replacements) was an incredible addition as Dr. Curt Connors. The slight changes to Peter’s transformation and how he uses his brain with his new-found abilities was a refreshing change to the franchise. If you haven’t already guessed, I really loved this version within the Spider-Man universe. I can’t wait for The Amazing Spider-Man 2! I would recommend this movie without hesitation, even more so if your a fan of the comic book to movie genre.
