Reviews In A Pinch

When You Just Need an honest review in a pinch.

Like Crazy (Rated PG-13)

Starring:  Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, and Jennifer Lawrence

Directed by:  Drake Doremus

Synopsis:  Like Crazy beautifully illustrates how your first real love is as thrilling and blissful as it is fragile.  When a British college student (Felicity Jones) falls for her American classmate (Anton Yelchin), they embark on a passionate and life-changing journey – only to be separated by circumstances beyond their control.  Like Crazy explores how a couple faces the real challenges of being together and of being apart.

My Thoughts:  I have to admit that I originally decided to watch this because Jennifer Lawrence is in it.  It wasn’t what I expected at all.  It was deep, dark at parts, and true to reality.  It does have the advantage of being an independent film, therefore there’s less of a need to appeal to the masses with your plot.  The mistakes made by the two main characters were plausible and added more depth to their love story.  It is without a doubt a love story.  The challenges faced by Jacob (Anton Yelchin) and Anna (Felicity Jones) made you root for them and believe in their love for one another.  This wasn’t a sappy love story with a Disney-esque happily ever after and if that’s what you prefer to see, this movie isn’t for you.  Like Crazy subtly makes you realize there’s still hope for anyone out there looking for love, no matter the circumstances or challenges you’re facing.  I would recommend this, if for no other reason than to see a not-so-perfect love story.
