Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 New Series I Want to Start

toptentuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly link-up in the community where The Broke and the Bookish provides a prompt and other lovers of list making join in on it with their own top ten list. You can have less than 10 or more if you need to at times and put a spin on the topic if you need to! All they ask is that you link back to them if you’re participating.

This week’s topic was simultaneously awesome and difficult.  The topic is new series I want to start.  They’re defining new as within the last year or two.  I managed to stick to that definition, but I want to point out that there are a ton of series that I want to read that are more than 2 years old and some series that I’ve started the first book and haven’t gotten very far into it (like Divergent).  So without further ado, here’s my list:

Top 10 New Series I Want to Start

1.  The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer – I already have Cinder (#1).  I don’t know if this one counts because technically I’ve already started it.  I just got bored about 30 pages in and haven’t managed to pick up back up.  I’m determined to read it though because I’ve heard a ridiculous amount of good things about it.

2.  Taken series by Erin Bowman – I already have Taken (#1) and Frozen (#2).  Whenever I even think about this series, I get excited.  I’m not sure exactly what it is that has blown a hole in my curiosity, but I’m exercising every ounce of self-control not to push this to the front of my TBR list.

3.  Veronica Mars series by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham – I already have The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line (#1).  I’m kind of obsessed with VM and have been for years.  This is definitely a case of limited reading time, not lack of interest. (Book #2 is called Mr. Kiss and Tell – massive fan-girling moment).

5.  The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo – I already have Shadow and Bone (#1) and Siege and Storm (#2).  This is another series that has gotten a lot of blogger love that is just sitting on my bookshelf.

6.  Dorothy Must Die series by Danielle Paige – I already have Dorothy Must Die (#1).  I don’t know why I haven’t already read this.  I’m surprised I didn’t crack it open the day I bought it (at B&N for full price, which is very unlike me).

7.  Control series by Lydia Kang – I already have Control (#1).  I tried to get this book as a First to Read before it came out, but failed.  I’m still pumped to read it, but my enthusiasm for it has waned a little since a few months have now passed.

8.  Survival series by Tracey Ward – It’s a zombie series and I can’t believe I haven’t already read it in its entirety.  I don’t have any books from this series…yet, which is a testament to how busy I’ve been.

9.  Seaborn trilogy by Chris Howard – I won Saltwater Witch (#1) in a Goodreads giveaway.  It looks really good, but I haven’t had the time to sit down and read it.

10.  Bea Catcher Chronicles by Olivia Samm – I received Snitch (#2) from Netgalley.  I’ll be honest about this one.  I wasn’t paying attention (again) and missed that I requested book 2.  Now I feel as though I should read the whole series to give it a fair shot.

What new series are you excited about starting?  Any recommendations?

  1. I read Cinder a while back and was a bit underwhelmed by it. Haven’t gone back to the other books yet, but I may at some point.

There are some other intriguing titles here that I may have to add to my already enormous TBR pile.

    • I understand completely. Some days I look around at all of my books and think there’s no way I’ll get to them all in my lifetime (especially since I add to the pile faster than I read what’s already there).

  2. I haven’t read that many from your list but I do know all of them. I love love love Dorothy Must Die and I can’t wait for the next book to be out!
BUT the book you should start with is Cinder! These days I barely gave five stars ratings but I couldn’t give anything else to any of the books of the Lunar Chronicles. I’m sure you’ve heard it before but Cinder is the best of the best. It starts off a little boring-ish or rather I didn’t have any idea where does the story go but after you got into the book you’ll love it. The best thing is the books keeps getting better, Cress was the best from the three books by far.
Good luck with reading these books. Wonderful list!

    • After all of these comments about how amazing Cinder is, I’ll have to try to clear my mind and then give it a fair shot. Thank you for stopping by!

  3. Completely forgot about shadow and bone! Glad I’m not the only one that hasn’t started this one and I didn’t know Dorothy must die was a series otherwise that would be on my list too!

    • You’re definitely not alone. I found a few other book bloggers yesterday that haven’t read Shadow & Bone, but I think it’s a few and far between thing.

  4. I loved the Cinder series, I thought it was completely different to anything I’ve read before! Shadow and Bone and Dorothy Must Die are two that almost made my list too, I have so many picking 10 was hard! oh! And I have Taken too…the rest are new to me and may just end up on my list…

    • It’s definitely different, I’ll give you that. I’m excited about the rest too. I had too many to list, but having a two year limit helped a little. Thank you for stopping by!

OOOH! I recently read Cinder, Scarlet, & Cress & LOVED them! And obviously Leigh’s books are amazing! I’ve read Taken but I haven’t gotten to the others in the series yet. And I just finished Dorothy Must Die last month and it took me a while to get through. There were parts that were slow but overall it was a pretty good retelling. You’ve got some awesome reading ahead of you!:D

    • You just made me a little more excited to delve into my reading. Thank you for stopping by!

  6. Nice post. Struggled to find it though, your address http://reviewsinapinch.com/ takes people to your welcome post and nothing else. It’s why I ended up commenting there, sorry.

Shadow & Bone and Dorothy Must Die are two books I am dying to read myself! I really hope you get to some of these series soon.

    • Me too. I’ll probably end up starting Dorothy Must Die after I get through the 2 Stephen King novels that I’m trying to finish for October.

  7. I loved the Lunar Chronicle series… and that type of stuff is usually not my thing. I also read Dorothy Must Die and I must say the beginning of it is quite boring. The second half picks up though! I would also like to read Sketchy. Great list!

    • Good to know that I may have to hang in there for Dorothy Must Die. And I’ll do my best to make it past page 50 of Cinder. I know I need to give it a fair shot.

The Lunar Chronicles are definitely worth the read. They get better with each book so it’s definitely worth carrying on with it. I really liked Shadow and Bone too, it was really good!

    • I should probably move them up on my TBR list and actually make an effort to read them. 😀 Thank you for stopping by!
